We released our new single Secondhand Gold to radio this week! If you follow us on social media, you will have seen a lot of posts about this song in the last month. We are so excited to share this tune with Canadian radio, and we hope you hear it on a station near you soon!
Choosing a single can be a difficult process - we have a lot of songs to choose from, and they are each special to us for different reasons. However, picking Secondhand Gold was an easy decision, not only because this song has always been one of our favourites from our album, but also because it has received some exciting recognition in the last few months. We will never forget that incredible feeling the moment we found out that Secondhand Gold had won the Grand Prize for Best Country Song in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest! We were riding in the car with our sister, Katie and her boyfriend Robbie when we received a tweet about the win. Julie (who wasn't driving!) started reading out the winners announcement and the amazing list of prizes, and we were all doing happy dances in the car. :)

In other exciting news, Secondhand Gold was also announced last weekend as the Song of the Year winner at the 2016 Vancouver Island Music Awards along with our album "It’s A Love Thing" winning Country Recording of the Year! It is such an honour to be recognized for our songwriting and our music, and to receive these awards from our local music community means so much to us. We are so happy that Secondhand Gold is touching people's hearts, and we can’t wait to hear what you all think when it hits the airwaves.
We wrote Secondhand Gold with one of our best friends, Brian Donkers. At the time, both of us gals had gone through recent breakups. We were nursing broken hearts and chatting about that elusive search for "the one". To us, Secondhand Gold is about waiting for true love. Everyone deserves to feel like the most important person to their significant other, and this song speaks about holding out for that right partner and not settling just for the sake of being settled down. We believe that it's worth waiting for a relationship that makes you feel valued, honoured and adored!
