#WCW Playlist: Women of Canadian Country!

With less than 2 weeks to go to the Canadian Country Music Awards, we wanted to share a #WCW playlist to get us all pumped for Rise & Shine: A Morning of Music with Women of Canadian Country!

We are excited to be hosting the third annual Rise & Shine event during Canadian Country Music Week in Saskatoon! We are celebrating the wonderful women of Canadian country with a live concert and "Girl Talk" interviews on Saturday, September 9th at 9:00am presented by the Radisson Hotel Saskatoon, Country 107.3, Freeman and Anya Wilson Promotion & Publicity. Click here to RSVP for this FREE concert event!

We asked our 2017 Rise & Shine lineup to share their favourite songs by female Canadian country artists for the playlist. This is what they had to say:

Tenille Arts: "One of my favourite songs by a Canadian country female artist is "Man, I Feel Like a Woman!" by Shania Twain because it's the perfect girls night song!"

Nice Horse: "Cornfields & Cadillacs" by Farmers Daughter is one of our favourites because that's us - country girls and city girls. We love that they were a strong female group. Angela Kelman is one of our mentors and an honourary horse!"

Amy Nelson: "Carolyn Dawn Johnson was always one of my favourite singers. I would get SO excited when I would hear her songs "Georgia" or "Complicated" come on the radio. I specifically remember the day when my mom called me into the living room because Carolyn was doing an interview on CMT. Mom and I stopped what we were doing (because PVRs didn't exist yet) and watched the whole thing together. In 2006, when "Taking Back My Brave" was released to radio, I had just learned to play guitar. I remember thinking at the time that the chorus of the song sounded a lot like me. Over ten years later, it still does!"

The Doll Sisters: "Final Bow" by Lindi Ortega is one of our favourite Country/Roots songs because Lindi wrote it thinking it would be one of the last songs she would ever write. It turns out that it became one of the songs for her comeback EP!"

Kirsty Lee Akers: "Shania Twain has always been a big inspiration for me. I remember the first time I heard "Any Man of Mine" and how much it blew my mind. I had never heard anything like it or seen an artist with so much energy and style. I was fascinated with her and still am."

And what's our favourite Canadian female country song? It's impossible to pick because we have so many that we love! We've added a bunch of them to this #WCW playlist, including songs from past Rise & Shine performers and 2017 CCMA female nominees!

What are your favourite songs by Canadian country women? Comment below and we will add them to the playlist!
